Outdoor Theatre is named" Otto René Castillo "
The artistic legacy left by poetry, has been one of the reasons that named the Outdoor Theater Cultural Center "Miguel Angel Asturias" with the name of the poet Otto René Castillo Quetzalteco. This decision is based with the Ministerial Agreement 267-2011 published on Tuesday 22 March in the Journal of Central America, which took effect the following day.
The Open Air Theatre "Otto René Castillo" was the venue for the opening of the second phase of the implementation of the Civic Service Act. Law with the participation of around eight thousand young children, aged 18 to 24 years, capital city areas, Zacapa, Jutiapa, Chimaltenango and Alta Verapaz, who provide services in areas of reforestation, environmental and military reserves.
The ceremony later the president addressed to young people saying "Guatemala victorious all of you must have at its heart, a heart of freedom, that heart and that youth is the one to build that Guatemala Victorious ".

The plaque in the entrance of the campus was unveiled by the President of the Republic of Guatemala, Álvaro Colom and Minister of Culture and Sports Héctor Leonel Escobedo Ayala, among other government authorities.

Otto René Castillo was born in Quetzaltenango in 1936. It was outstanding student at the University of San Carlos where he studied law. Because of its high academic standards obtained a scholarship to study in the GDR. It was revolutionary because of his involvement in the military went into exile on several occasions. He was captured in battle on March 19, 1967 in the Sierra de las Minas. 5 days after he was shot.
Among his awards are the American Poetry Prize, won in 1955, the Independent Award in 1956 and the International Poetry Award in Budapest in 1957.

Authorities of the Ministry of Culture and Sports paid a tribute to the artist Manolo Gallardo, as a recognition of his outstanding career. The ceremony was the presence of family, friends and students of the artist, was held at the Patio de la Paz of the National Palace of Culture, including works by him that were admired by the public. Was chosen on May 10 because that day marks the anniversary of the National School of Fine Arts Rafael Rodriguez Padilla, "where Gallardo is an honorary professor.
The Minister of Culture and Sports, Hector Escobedo gave the event and highlighted important passages in the life of Gallardo. The Chief Executive of the School of Visual Arts, Otto Arana, Gallardo's work mentioned in the artistic imagination of Guatemala and as a reference for future generations. For its part, the Academic Director, Leonel del Cid stressed that the artist of honor is one of the most prominent and recognized the cultural environment of our country.
At the event, the artist received a certificate which identifies him as a Messenger of Peace and a replica of the Monument of Peace. In his speech, the teacher Gallardo commemorated the anniversary of this institution and invited the directors of that to accompany him on the monument and they themselves were participants in the tribute.

Successful completion of "Vamos a la Playa 2011
About 28 000 people were taken to Puerto de San Jose as part of the activity "Vamos a la Playa with Solidarity."
